Performance of the Terrain and Acadia

GMC Terrain vs GMC Acadia

Both the GMC Terrain and GMC Acadia offer plenty of power to get you where you need to go.

The standard engine under the hood of the Terrain is a 1.5L Turbo 4-cylinder engine with 170 horsepower and 203 lb-ft of torque. To help with fuel efficiency, the Terrain has standard Automatic Stop/Start technology. When your Terrain is stopped, the engine shuts off to conserve fuel and turns on again when it’s time to get going.

When looking at the Acadia, you’ll find two engine options. The standard 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine offers 228 horsepower with 258 lb-ft of torque out of the gate.

The Acadia's available 3.6L V6 engine option gives you even more power: an impressive 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. Both engines, like the engine from the Terrain, come equipped with Automatic Stop/Start technology.

For a smooth ride, the Acadia has an available Adaptive Ride Control feature that uses a Continuous Damping Control Suspension system that adjusts to the road every few milliseconds to get a comfortable ride.

Off-Road Capability

GMC Terrain vs GMC Acadia

When you’re looking at a GMC SUV, you probably want to head off the beaten path. The Acadia and Terrain are ready when you are.

Both SUVs come standard with Traction Select Systems. This system allows you to choose a drive mode to make adjustments to your driving experience as you need to. If you opt for the front-wheel drive version of this system, you’ll get Normal, Snow, Sport, and Trailer/Tow, depending on which SUV you choose. All-wheel drive versions offer FWD, AWD, Sport, Off-Road, and Trailer/Tow modes.

The AT4 AWD trim of the Terrain also comes standard with skid plates to help protect the underside of your vehicle from rocks and debris.

Heading down a steep hill? Use Hill Descent Control, offered on both SUVs, to provide a smooth, controlled descent even in rough terrain.

Interior Features

GMC Terrain vs GMC Acadia

Inside the Terrain and Acadia, comfort and design are key focuses. The Terrain seats five, while the Acadia seats six or seven, depending on which seating configuration you choose.

The Terrain and Acadia both offer available heated and perforated leather-trimmed seats for comfort and style. Both have the option of heated outboard second-row seats too.

The technology inside the Terrain and Acadia includes a standard GMC infotainment system. In the Terrain, you get a standard 7-inch touchscreen, while in the Acadia, you get a standard 8-inch screen. These systems allow you to stream music, answer calls hands-free, and get available in-vehicle navigation.

So you can keep your eyes on the road, the Terrain and Acadia both have available Head-Up Displays. These displays project information, like speed, navigation, fuel alerts, and more onto your windshield so you don’t have to look down.
