Power Under the Hood

The GMC Sierra 2500 offers two engine options—one gas and one diesel.

The gas engine is a 6.6L V8 that generates 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. It works with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission.

For a little more power and torque, you’ll want the 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine. This engine provides 445 horsepower and a whopping 910 lb-ft of torque. To produce these incredible results, the diesel engine works with an Allison® 10-speed automatic transmission.

So that your diesel engine stays cool while it works, we’ve added a 28-inch variable-speed cooling fan that draws in cool air from the Dual Path Air Induction System.

Whether you choose the diesel or the gas engine, you’ll also have the option of rear-wheel drive or 4-wheel drive.

Towing and Payload Capacity

If you’re looking to haul a trailer or load up the truck bed, the GMC Sierra 2500 is ready to tow with the best of them. When properly equipped, the Sierra 2500 has a maximum towing capacity of 18,500 pounds.

You’ve got plenty of space and strength in the truck bed to work with too. The maximum payload capacity of the Sierra 2500 comes to 3,563 pounds.

With the Sierra 2500’s MultiPro Tailgate, loading the truck bed is easier than ever. There are six ways to open the tailgate. To make it easier to get in and out of the truck bed, use the full-width step that comes out of the inner gate. Use the primary gate load stop to prevent longer items sliding out of the truck bed.

Inside the cabin, you’ll find an infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ integration. This feature lets you access your favorite smartphone apps, like music and navigation, right on your vehicle’s touchscreen.
