The Sierra 3500 comes with a gasoline-powered 6.6-liter V8 that produces 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, but four-wheel drive is optional. The uprated engine option is a Duramax® diesel 6.6-liter V8 that produces 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque, mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The Sierra 3500 is available in a single- or dual-rear-wheel axle.

Properly equipped, the Sierra 3500 can tow up to 35,500 pounds and offers a 7,442-pound payload capacity with the diesel engine, rear-wheel drive, the dual-rear-wheel axle, and the regular cab.

The Sierra 3500 has an expansive cabin with an elegant design and practical features like a split-folding front bench, which can be replaced with bucket seats and a center console. Plenty of luxurious comfort features are available, such as heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, and a head-up display.

While all models boast plenty of passenger space, the crew cab has ample head- and legroom for adults to stretch out and relax. You can get either standard or long cargo boxes with steps on each side of the bed for easy loading and unloading. Other cargo features include movable tie-downs, a 120-volt outlet, and the multi-function tailgate that has multiple positions for tailgating or as a mobile work surface.

All Sierra 3500 models come with an infotainment system equipped with Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™, a feature that streams music and media from your phone to the vehicle’s onboard system. While you can use touchscreen inputs, the system also has physical knobs and buttons for frequently used functions like audio volume and climate control. Other tech features include navigation, satellite radio, and a rear-seat entertainment system for the kids.

Several safety features are available for the Sierra 3500, including a trailer camera with 15 different modes and a “transparent” mode, which practically looks through the attached trailer. Other features include Lane Departure Warning and Lane Change Alert, a feature that alerts you if you drift out of your lane and gently guides you back. Forward-collision mitigation with automated emergency braking is optional. It alerts you to potential frontal collisions and applies the brakes.
