In this GMC Canyon vs. Chevy Colorado comparison by the team at Geoff Penske Buick GMC, we’ll highlight the similarities and differences between these two automotive beasts so you can make an informed decision.

GMC vs Chevy: Performance

GMC Canyon Engine Specs

Whether it’s for work or play, truck drivers love having a vehicle that can seemingly overcome any hurdle. When it comes to performance, these trucks can’t be beat. The primary similarity is that they offer the same 3-engine lineup with identical horsepower, torque, and towing capacity.

An available 3.6L V6 engine will provide 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque while allowing for up to 7,000 pounds of towing capability. However, if you want a bit more torque and towing capacity, the available Duramax® 2.8L Turbo-Diesel engine will provide 369 lb-ft and up to 7,700 pounds.

The Canyon sets itself apart from the Colorado in its available tires, which will help on your off-roading excursions. In the AT4 trim, your truck will have 31-inch tires, which will make any obstacle look like light work. Also available is an Advanced Hill Descent Control System for an even smoother trip down steep hills.

Canyon vs Colorado: Safety

GMC Canyon Safety Features

These trucks allow you to drive with confidence, knowing they’ll help protect you if danger strikes. Both models offer identical safety features such as Forward Collision Alert, Rear Park Assist, Lane Departure Warning, and a Teen Driver feature which, when enabled, can show your new driver the ropes and even provide a report when their training session ends.

Both trucks also offer an OnStar® safety system that, at the push of a button, allows you to call for help if you’ve been in an accident or your vehicle breaks down. You’ll connect with an agent, who can dispatch necessary assistance to your location.

The GMC, however, can help you see better at night or when it’s foggy with LED fog lamps and LED headlamps. The Chevy has fog lamps and headlamps as well, but they’re not LED so they’re not as bright.
